Top 5 Places to Visit in Florida

The sun setting over a pier on a Florida Gulf Coast beach

Florida welcomed a record 143.3 million visitors in 2025, according to preliminary Visit Florida estimates, so where should you actually go? These are the top places to visit in Florida, from a swamp where alligators and crocodiles share the same water to a beach that travelers rank among the best in the world. Each place is ranked using two things: how many people go and how travelers rate it. Whether you want popular places to visit in Florida or just a few good places to visit in Florida for a first trip, this list is a place to start.

5. Everglades National Park

About a million people visit Everglades National Park every year, according to the National Park Service. The wider Everglades ecosystem covers roughly 1.5 million acres of wetlands, and it is the only place in the world where American alligators and crocodiles live side by side in the wild. Fresh water and salt water mix here, and the two animals favor different water: alligators prefer fresh water, while crocodiles tolerate salt and brackish water better.

Alligators are far more common. Florida wildlife officials estimate that more than 200,000 alligators live in the Everglades, and crocodiles are much rarer.

4. St. Augustine

The Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés founded St. Augustine in 1565, which makes it the oldest continuously occupied European-founded settlement in the continental United States. Walk St. George Street, then head to the Castillo de San Marcos. Construction began in 1672 and took 23 years, finishing in 1695.

The fort is built of coquina, a stone made of ancient shells bonded together. Coquina absorbed cannon fire so well that cannonballs sank into the walls instead of breaking them. The Castillo is described as the oldest masonry fort still standing in the continental U.S.

Then see Flagler College. It began as the Hotel Ponce de Leon, which Henry Flagler built and opened in 1888, and its dining hall still holds Tiffany stained glass windows. The college has occupied the building since 1968.

3. Key West

The big photo stop in Key West is the Southernmost Point buoy, painted with the words “90 Miles to Cuba.” The city put up the concrete buoy in 1983. The true southernmost point of the continental U.S. lies on restricted Navy property that is closed to the public, so the buoy marks the southernmost spot you can actually visit.

Lines at the buoy can build during the day, so early morning or late evening is the easier time to go.

2. Clearwater Beach

Tripadvisor named Clearwater Beach the second best beach in the United States for 2026, and 17th best in the world, in its Travelers’ Choice Awards.

The big event is sunset at Pier 60. Each evening, crowds gather there to watch the sun go down over the Gulf of Mexico.

1. Walt Disney World

Magic Kingdom drew 17.8 million visitors in 2024, which made it the most visited theme park in the world, according to the TEA Global Experience Index. It is only one of four Disney parks near Orlando. Epcot had about 12 million visitors, Hollywood Studios 10.3 million and Animal Kingdom 8.8 million, which adds up to roughly 49 million visits in a single year.

For comparison, Universal Studios Florida drew 9.5 million. Love it or not, no place in Florida pulls in crowds like this, which is why it earns the top spot among the fun places to visit in Florida for families.

Just missed the list: Kennedy Space Center

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex narrowly missed the top five. Tripadvisor named it the top attraction in the United States in its 2025 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best list. You can see the Space Shuttle Atlantis and a Saturn V rocket at the Apollo/Saturn V Center, and the visitor center has welcomed guests since 1967.
